Hangul MetroPrivacy Policy
Hangul Metro: Read Korean is provided by Loyd Lab, an individual developer based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains how the app and this website handle data. Contact: kimloydmail@gmail.com.
1. No account
The app does not ask you to create an account or log in. Firebase Anonymous Authentication creates a random user ID in the background so purchases can be verified and restored. This ID is a technical identifier, not a named account.
2. Your learning data stays on your device
Your lesson progress, learned letters, mission results, stickers, saved expressions, streak, daily goal, reminder time and the name you type for your Hangul name card are saved on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers and are not synced to the cloud. Names you try for a friend's card are kept only while you use that screen.
3. Microphone and speech recognition
Speaking practice is optional. If you allow it, the app uses your microphone and your phone's built-in Korean speech recognition to turn what you say into text and compare it with the target word. The app requests on-device recognition only (iOS on-device speech recognition; Android on-device recognizer on Android 12 and later). If on-device recognition is not available on your phone, the app does not score speech and you can keep learning by listening.
The app does not save your recordings, does not upload your voice or the recognised text to us, and does not include them in analytics. The score shows how closely the recognised words matched the target. It is not a measurement of accent or pronunciation quality. Your phone maker's speech service is subject to its own privacy terms.
4. Name cards and sharing
Your Hangul name card image is created on your device. When you tap Story, Instagram, TikTok or Save, the image is passed to your device's share or save screen. We do not post anything for you and do not receive the image.
5. Purchases
Metro Pass is sold through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google process payments; we never receive your card details. Cloud Functions verifies a purchase with Apple or Google using the product ID and the store transaction ID or purchase token, and Cloud Firestore stores the resulting entitlement (plan, status, expiry or lifetime) linked to the anonymous ID.
6. Analytics and crash reports
The app uses Firebase Analytics to record usage events, such as onboarding steps, lessons, missions and paywall views, together with technical information such as app version, device and operating system details and app instance identifiers. Events never include your name, your recognised speech or purchase tokens. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash and error diagnostics to help fix problems.
7. No advertising
The app has no ads and no advertising SDK, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
8. Reminders
If you allow notifications, the app schedules a local daily reminder on your device. You can change the time or turn it off in the app's Settings or in your device settings.
9. Support email and this website
If you email support, we receive your email address and what you choose to send, and use it to answer you. Please do not send card details. This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which processes ordinary request data such as IP address and requested URL to deliver and secure the site. The website has no ads and no account.
10. Purposes, providers and international processing
We use data to provide and restore purchases, answer support requests, understand how the app is used and fix faults. Where UK data protection law applies, our bases are providing the service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the app, and legal obligations. Google/Firebase, Apple, Google Play and Cloudflare process information to provide their services and may do so outside the United Kingdom under their own data protection arrangements. We do not sell your personal information.

11. Retention and deletion
Learning data on your device stays until you delete the app or its data. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription.
To delete server data (the anonymous ID and its purchase entitlement), email kimloydmail@gmail.com with your store order reference if you have it, because the app does not collect your name or email. Deleting the entitlement can remove Metro Pass access until you restore it. Purchase records are kept as long as needed to verify and restore purchases and meet record-keeping duties. Analytics and crash data follow Google's retention settings.
12. Children
Hangul Metro is a general-audience language app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
13. Your rights, changes and contact
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction of your data, object to processing or request portability. Email us at the address above. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or your local authority. We will update this policy when the app's data practices change and revise the effective date.
